We all know the name BOTOX®. In fact, just hearing the name brings to mind an injectable liquid designed to reduce, and even eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. There are tons people who swear by it (and rightly so!).

In technical terms, BOTOX is a neurotoxin, similar to other neurotoxins like Dysport and Xeomin. A type of botulinum toxin A, BOTOX is a purified protein used to temporarily stop muscle movements by blocking conductivity between your nerves and targeted muscles in your face. Because of this, BOTOX is able to help smooth lines on the forehead, crow’s feet, and the glabella (or as we like to call the lines between your eyebrows –  “11s”.)

While BOTOX (and other wrinkle modulators) is incredibly effective for smoothing lines and wrinkles, we want to let you in on a little secret—there are several other equally incredible things that this treatment can do! At Clarity, we frequently use BOTOX as a powerful treatment for fine lines and wrinkles as well as to effectively treat these four things:

Tight Neck “Platysmal” Bands

Platysmal bands are strips of muscle that start at the base of the neck (on the front) and run up the left and right sides, continuing all the way up to the jaw. As you get older, these muscles can become tighter, which can then cause bands to become prominent. When BOTOX is injected directly into these bands, the platysma muscles become looser, helping to reduce the appearance of an aging neck.

TMJ Symptoms

TMJ is a condition that affects your jaw and temporomandibular joints. It is often caused by bruxism, or the grinding and clenching of your teeth. The excessive force placed on your jaw and joints can lead to severe pain. It can also make basic movements like biting, chewing, and speaking incredibly difficult, all of which can make life quite miserable. BOTOX can help to provide you with the relief you need from your TMJ symptoms.

When injected, BOTOX works to temporarily reduce the jaw muscles ability to grind and clench. This helps to greatly alleviate the pain and other symptoms associated with TMJ. And easing your TMJ pain can help to give you your life back.

Hyperhidrosis

Everyone sweats. That’s just how our bodies cool off. However, some people suffer from a condition known as hyperhidrosis. This is a condition that causes excessive sweating. Those with hyperhidrosis are generally otherwise healthy. Hyperhidrosis can cause significant embarrassment, can complicate social and work interactions, and can cause stains on your clothes. Not only that, but if you experience excessive sweating of your hands, you may find it difficult to write, drive, or simply shake someone else’s hands.

BOTOX is an incredibly effective treatment against the symptoms of hyperhidrosis. It works by temporarily blocking the nerves that trigger excessive sweat, most commonly in the underarms, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that results in the skin, most commonly the cheeks, becoming irritated and inflamed. While the condition is harmless, the redness and inflammation that results can be rather embarrassing. There may not be a cure for rosacea currently, but there are ways in which the condition can be controlled.

BOTOX is an effective way to do just that. Multiple diluted BOTOX injections delivered intradermally (superficially as opposed to subdermally or intramuscularly) to the affected areas provides a noticeable reduction in both redness and inflammation.

Yes, BOTOX is an effective tool for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, helping you to achieve a more youthful, and natural appearance. But that’s not all it’s good for!
