Top 10 at Home Beauty Mistakes and Solutions

Overplucking your eyebrows. Been there, done that. In your quest for the perfect brows, you accidentally overpluck. Unfortunately, all you can do in this case is wait it out. In the meantime, you can  use Latisse, In addition to helping lashes grow longer and fuller, it can help to regrow your eyebrows too! You can also fill in using a fine point brow pencil – color is critical here. Anastasia Brow Definer and Clinique Superfine Brow Pencil are two of our favorites.

Dyeing your eyebrows at home. Ever done this and end up with thick caterpillars above your eyes? Happens to the best of us. Try using a silicone-based makeup remover on cotton pads or liquid dish soap. This should help to dilute and lighten the color on your brows.

Using a foundation that’s too dark and forgetting to blend below your jaw. Your foundation is, well, the foundation for a flawless appearance. Using the correct color is essential. A color that’s even a shade or two too dark, especially if you don’t blend, can result in a very artificial look. Go to a makeup counter at your local department store, Ulta or Sephora to consult with a makeup consultant there. They are trained to color match a foundation to your skintone. Buy it, then blend people, blend!

Forgetting to exfoliate before applying self-tanner. Not exfoliating before you apply a self-tanner can result in streaks. Yikes. If you don’t have an exfoliant, you can try making your own body scrub at home. You can make a paste using baking soda and water. You can also dab your skin with lemon or white vinegar. Rinse, dry and apply your self-tanner for a smooth and even glow.

Popping pimples at home. We all want a quick fix when it comes to pimples. The most tempting thing to do is take care of them by popping them. While squeezing a pimple might give you a temporary thrill, it can actually cause so much more damage. When you pop, you most likely haven’t washed your hands. This results in immediately allowing dirt and oil into the open skin. The fix? Just DON’T do it! Or you can apply an acne spot treatment on clean skin.

Gluing your eyes shut while applying false eyelashes. False eyelashes can be a great thing to help add length and fullness to your natural lashes. Applying them requires the use of an adhesive. Not taking care while applying false eyelashes can result in gluing your eyes shut. Don’t panic. Try dipping a cotton swab in makeup remover and gently rubbing it over the glue. This should loosen the adhesive so that you can open your eye again.

Applying medical grade serums and eye creams on dirty skin. Our Clarity skincare products are formulated by a chemist and they are medical grade. A big mistake that many people make is applying medical grade serums and eye creams on dirty skin and then proclaiming, “these products don’t work!” People come on; have I taught you nothing??? Anything that you apply to your skin has to be applied to CLEAN skin in order for it to work. Cleanse before applying your serums and creams.

Leaving your house without checking for lipstick on your teeth. It’s a mistake that happens to the best of us, especially when we’re in a hurry. You quickly apply your lipstick and rush out the door without making a final check. Make it part of your routine to give yourself one last lookover before you head out. There are also a few ways you can prevent getting lipstick on your teeth, such as using a lip primer or blotting with a tissue after applying.

Applying hair oil directly to your scalp. Hair oils have their benefits. They can add moisture and promote hair growth and shine. There are some downsides, too. Applying hair oil directly to your scalp can result in hair that looks greasy. The oil can also weigh your hair down. If you’re short on time, you can try using a dry shampoo. Really the only fix for this, however, is actually shampooing your hair.

Buying waterproof mascara by mistake and learning that you’re out of makeup remover. Grabbing a waterproof mascara instead of a regular mascara isn’t the end of the world. But if you don’t have any makeup remover, getting that waterproof mascara off can be quite difficult. Try putting some olive oil on a cotton ball and holding the ball on your lashes for 20 seconds. This should help to dissolve the mascara so that you can wipe it away.
