Understanding Types of Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common concern affecting both men and women, with various underlying causes such as genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, and environmental factors. The GetHairMD program offers a comprehensive solution to address hair loss, promote hair growth, and increase hair volume.

Types of Hair Loss:

  1. Androgenetic Alopecia (Pattern Baldness):
The most common form of hair loss, affecting both men and women; statistically is 95% of all known hair loss. Characterized by a receding hairline, thinning crown, and diffuse thinning in females.
  2. Alopecia Areata:
An autoimmune condition causing patchy hair loss on the scalp and body.
Can progress to total hair loss on the scalp (alopecia totalis) or the entire body (alopecia universalis).
  3. Telogen Effluvium:
A temporary condition where a large number of hair follicles enter the telogen (resting) phase, leading to excessive shedding. Often triggered by stress, illness, or hormonal changes.
  4. Traction Alopecia:
Hair loss caused by excessive tension on the hair, often due to hairstyles like tight braids or ponytails.

What to know about popular weight loss drugs: Safety, cost, and effectiveness

If you’ve been thinking about drug-assisted weight loss, there’s a lot you need to know before getting started. Let’s break it down. What are these drugs, exactly?

What to know about popular weight loss drugs: Safety, cost, and effectiveness

If you’ve been thinking about drug-assisted weight loss, there’s a lot you need to know before getting started. Let’s break it down. What are these drugs, exactly?

Injectable Prescription Drugs

Originally approved for the treatment of type-2 diabetes, GLP-1 medications like Semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) and Terzepitide (Zepbound, Mounjaro) have dramatically risen in popularity over the last couple of years as a solution for weight loss. With several celebrity endorsements and the recent FDA approval for weight loss and cardiovascular risk reduction, GLP-1 medications are one of the most in demand products sold in the U.S. While these prescription weight loss drugs have proven effective when combined with diet and exercise, they come with their fair share of side effects and can be very expensive if not covered by insurance.

Semaglutide:

Semaglutide is a prescription antidiabetic drug used to regulate the body’s insulin levels. Taken via injection or tablet, it works by mimicking a natural hormone in the body called GLP-1, prompting the release of insulin and reducing the production of sugar. When taken at a higher dose, semaglutide has been shown to help those with obesity lose weight. Weight loss while using this drug can be attributed to a decrease in appetite and the slowing of the digestive system so people feel less hungry and eat less.

While Semaglutide has been deemed a miracle drug for many people wanting to lose weight, it can cause some very unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects, including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, indigestion, dizziness, bloating and gas. Additionally, once you stop using the drug, you will have a very high risk of regaining the weight and potentially worsening control over type-2 diabetes.

Tirzepatide:

Tirzepatide is another prescription antidiabetic drug that has also been FDA approved for weight loss. Taken via injection, tirzepatide is a GLP-1 and GIP activator, effective in reducing appetite and food intake. The dosage must be increased slowly over the course of several weeks to achieve the target dosage. Tirzepatide works by decreasing appetite and slowing the movement of food from the stomach into the small intestine, which may make you feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time. When paired with diet and exercise, it can be highly effective in helping you lose and maintain weight loss.

Like Semaglutide, Tirzepatide also comes with common to serious side effects including abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, acid reflux, hair loss, hypersensitivity, injection site reactions, nausea, vomiting, severe stomach problems, and even acute kidney damage.

GLP-1 Supplements

As an alternative to the expensive injectable prescriptions, GLP-1 supplements promote a safer, natural way to boost the body’s GLP-1, helping to reduce hunger, cravings, and overall food intake. While these supplements are much more affordable with very few side effects, they are not regulated by the FDA and don’t contain the same agonist or mimicking hormone as prescription injections. Rather, they contain extracts that boost the body’s natural production of GLP-1, leading doctors to believe they aren’t as effective.

Weight Loss at Clarity: A holistic approach

With the high cost and side effects of prescription injections, and the questionable efficacy of natural supplements, it’s difficult to know where to turn. At Clarity Wellness, we believe that a holistic approach to weight loss under the guidance of our medical staff is the key to sustainable, long-term success.

When you come in for a weight loss consultation, we’re going to look at the whole picture. We begin with ordering bloodwork, reviewing your medical history in detail, and assessing your overall candidacy. We’ll talk about your diet, overall lifestyle, and weight loss goals. If deemed an appropriate candidate, we’ll record your weight and take initial measurements. We’ll also discuss the benefits of adding our natural GLP-1 activator, Calocurb, and energy-boosting B-12 injections to your diet and exercise routine for maximum, sustainable weight loss.

Why Calocurb?

Unlike other GLP-1 supplements, Calocurb contains the active ingredient Amarasate®, a natural, plant-based extract from hops only grown in the South Island of New Zealand. Amarasate® works by stimulating the gastric tastebuds to release a natural blend of gastric peptides GLP-1, CCK, and PYY, and has been clinically shown to effectively manage appetite, overeating, cravings, and hunger. The effectiveness of Calocurb has been said to match that of Ozempic® without the harmful side effects, making it our preferred method for drug assisted weight loss.

Why B-12?

If you’re experiencing lower energy levels, brain fog, or mood changes, you may have a B-12 deficiency. Receiving B-12 shots can help restore your B-12 levels, boost your energy, mental clarity, and metabolism, and help with weight loss.

After your initial consultation, you’ll receive a one-month supply of Calocurb with instructions on how to incorporate it into your routine. You’ll return weekly for vitamin injections, and during the third visit, your provider will conduct a Weight Loss Follow-Up and adjust your plan as necessary. To ensure your safety as you progress on your weight loss journey, you’ll come back every three months for a comprehensive check-in. Our providers are with you every step of the way, helping you navigate any roadblocks or potential side effects so that you can achieve your goals and maintain your weight loss long-term.

New Filler Alternative PlasmaGel Creates Amazing, All-Natural Results https://clarityct.com/skin-care/new-filler-alternative-plasmagel-creates-amazing-all-natural-results/ Thu, 30 Nov 2023 18:25:35 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7423

Did you know that your very own blood can be used to create a natural alternative to standard fillers? PlasmaGel, also known as  EZgel, is a game-changing injectable gel that creates subtle, and natural-looking results without using any chemicals or additives.

This pioneering new technology uses a sample of your blood to produce a custom concentration of volumizing proteins and rejuvenating growth factors, naturally stimulating and maximizing your cell’s regenerative process for a youthful glow, enhanced volume and collagen stimulation.

This restorative, skin-boosting treatment is top-tier for patients who are looking for that natural, never-seen-a-needle look!

Keep reading to learn all about PlasmaGel, how it works, why it’s an amazing option for skin rejuvenation, and what you can expect from the treatment process at Clarity.

How Does the PlasmaGel Process Work?

At Clarity we use the best collection system on the market: EZPRF, which produces Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) from your unique blood sample.

First, two tubes of your blood will be drawn and spun in a centrifuge. Once the cycle is complete, your PRF will be subjected to a unique cooling and heating process. PlasmaGel combines the heated albumin, or protein, of your blood plasma and the growth factors of the PRF concentrate. Basically, it’s your body’s own filler!

What makes the EZPRF collection system so exceptional is that it produces more platelets per sample as well as immune-strengthening leukocytes (white blood cells) and powerful mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).

There are no chemical additives or modifications made, making it a safe option for anyone looking to enhance their appearance the natural way.

Why Is PRF Better Than Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

While still effective in many cases, PRP had its heyday as the gold-standard in the early 2000s; with PRF, technology has advanced into a new technique. EZPRF offers the most progressive collection process we’ve ever found. We use only the best at Clarity!

Essentially, EZPRF creates a unique fibrin matrix (or scaffolding) for your skin that’s rich in platelets, leukocytes and MSCs.

This process causes a steady release of growth factors and interleukins (which regulate cell growth) for 10-12 days, accelerating the tissue healing and regeneration process and creating natural-looking and long-lasting results.

LEARN MORE: What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

What Areas Can PlasmaGel Treat?

Because of its subtle nature, PlasmaGel is best for subtle, natural looking improvements. Since it’s derived from your own blood, it creates organic results and beautifully enhanced volume.

The best areas to treat with PlasmaGel include the midface, nasolabial folds/laugh lines, temples, under-eye area, jowls or jawline, smoker’s lines around the mouth, lips, chest, and neck.

PlasmaGel can also improve skin texture by minimizing crepiness and pore size on the chest and neck. In addition, it can stimulate your skin’s collagen production and help with facial symmetry adjustments.

How Many Treatments Does PlasmaGel Require?

Two treatments. At each session, our trained professionals will first inject PlasmaGel into the treatment areas using standard dermal filler injection techniques for subtle volume correction. Next, PRF will be superficially injected for skin rejuvenation effects.

You can expect a 90-minute appointment time due to the blood draw and preparation process. Because the injections are done over the course of two treatments, it creates a less noticeable, more natural look.

How Quickly Does PlasmaGel Work? What About Downtime or Complications?

You’ll see the results of PlasmaGel immediately after injection and you can expect your appearance to improve for up to three months as collagen continues to increase. Results may last for up to one year (with maintenance as needed since the aging process never stops).

Complications with PlasmaGel are extremely rare, and there is little to no downtime. Some mild swelling, bruising, or redness can occur at injection sites and patients are asked to avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours after each treatment.

Begin Your Journey With a Consultation

At Clarity, every new patient undergoes a personalized consultation. During this time, your skin will be assessed and any potential treatments or enhancements explained in detail.

Our talented team, made up of the best providers in the business, is led by Kati Midgley, PA-C, who has two decades of medical experience and is a national instructor of aesthetics.

What’s Your Skin’s Age? The Answer Might Surprise You https://clarityct.com/skin-care/whats-your-skins-age/ Tue, 01 Aug 2023 18:26:30 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7292

“”When it comes to the idea of age, most people keenly count the years. “How old are you?” is a question we hear all too often.

But when it comes to your skin, the dates on the calendar aren’t the most important factor. Turns out, your chronological age and your skin’s age are two very different things. Unlike chronological age, your skin’s age is determined by factors that are largely under your control.

Let’s talk about why skin age is important, what impacts your skin’s age, and how we make those determinations here at Clarity so we can create the perfect treatment plan for you!

Why Is Skin Age Important?

Determining skin age is crucial because the actual skin that’s present on your body is what needs to be treated — not its technical age. For the most effective skincare routine, we need to properly assess your skin age and treat it accordingly!

Factors That Impact Skin Age

There are many factors that, over time, can significantly affect your skin’s age — and most of them you can control. These include:

  • Not taking proper care of your skin can have serious long-term consequences. As we said in a recent blog post, a good skincare routine (including a cleanser, a retinol, a vitamin C serum, and most importantly, SPF) should actually start in puberty. Or as soon as possible thereafter!
  • Sun exposure. UV light, caused by the sun, can significantly damage your skin, causing early aging. With excessive exposure, it can even lead to a greater risk of skin cancer. Always wear your SPF!
  • While we all know the general health risks of smoking, this risky practice can also cause premature aging. Chemicals in cigarettes can negatively affect the production of collagen and elastin (the two proteins that help keep it looking youthful) in your skin.
  • Poor diet/lack of nutrients. Nutrient-dense food fuels all aspects of your body, including your skin. Eating an abundance of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables will help keep that collagen flowing even as you age. Alternatively, a poor diet can definitely reveal itself on your face.
  • Lack of exercise. Exercise is one of the best ways to maintain your skin’s health. When we exercise, blood flows, carrying oxygen and an array of other nutrients to our skin cells. So when we skip out on the workouts, it can show up in our skin’s appearance.

How to Determine Skin Age

At Clarity, our expert, experienced providers know exactly how to assess your skin to determine its age. The following factors are some of what we’ll look for during your assessment.

  • Wrinkles and fine lines. Fine lines and wrinkles can be some of the first signs of aging skin. As you get older, wrinkles tend to get deeper and more pronounced — particularly when you opt out of anti-aging skincare options.
  • If you don’t drink enough water it can show itself in a number of ways, including dryness, dullness, more pronounced under-eye circles, and fine lines. Hydration is everything!
  • Poor tone. Your skin’s tone should look healthy and natural. Any change in complexion color can indicate underlying issues.
  • Uneven texture and discoloration. If the texture of your skin isn’t consistent or there are discoloration concerns, it can show an advanced skin age.
  • Healthy, youthful skin should be firm and hold up well. Looseness or laxity are signs of aging skin.

What Healthy Skin Should Look Like

Skin that’s been properly cared for will show it! Healthy skin has a natural glow about it; undoubtedly you’ve noticed that gorgeous, ethereal quality in others. Pores are less visible, hyperpigmentation is nearly non-existent, it is hydrated with a “dewey” appearance.

In addition, healthy skin has better elasticity, it’s thicker (thin skin is typical of poorer quality and shows “etching” or fine lines), and will have less discoloration.

If it turns out that you have a more advanced skin age, don’t fret! There are tons of treatment options available to address your skin’s age and dial back the damage. Here at Clarity, it’s our job to give you the best skin of your life.

Start With a Consultation

At Clarity, a new patient’s journey begins with a custom consultation. Forget what it says on your birth certificate; during this time our experienced clinicians will listen to your unique concerns and weigh in on what they see while examining your skin.

As experienced providers, oftentimes we see things you may have overlooked or that you thought were impossible to treat. A treatment plan may work to address the obvious signs of aging initially, then progress as your skin improves over time.

Schedule your consultation today and turn back the hands of time for your skin!

The Best Skin Care Treatments: your 20s https://clarityct.com/skin-care/best-skincare-treatments-for-your-20s/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 14:26:07 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7283

a   Skincare is something that should start as soon as possible. While your 20s might seem a little young to be thinking too far into the future, the truth is that dermatologists recommend proper skincare should actually start at puberty!

As our moms used to say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” The sooner you start thinking about taking care of your skin, the better it’s going to look in the long term. The preventative approach is everything!

Let’s talk about the top ways to take care of your skin when you’re in your 20s.

5 Steps to Get Started

Daily Skincare Is Key

Your first step is to start a twice-daily skincare routine. This is crucial!

Once you get used to it, it’s something you should stick with for the rest of your life to ensure you have gorgeous, glowing skin forever!

When you first initiate a new routine, it may be confusing to navigate the market and figure out which products are the most important and give you the most bang for your buck. At Clarity, we’re here to help!

This daily routine should include a cleanser formulated for your skin type, a vitamin C serum, a nightly moisturizer and most importantly daily sunblock or SPF!  At Clarity, we feature a range of zinc based sunscreens from EltaMD formulated for all skin types; dry, oily, acne-prone, etc. Sunscreen should be worn everyday regardless of the weather, year round.

BOTOX®, Baby!

If you’re in your 20s, BOTOX® might not even be on your radar. You may have heard that it’s a wrinkle modulator that’s used to treat existing lines. But it’s much more than that. This naturally purified protein is also used to prevent “dynamic” wrinkles, which are caused by movement.

Genetics may play a part in whether you have forehead lines, “11’s” (the lines between your brows), and so on, keep that in mind when considering a toxin treatment. Using a wrinkle modulator makes it easier to stop a line from forming in the first place!

And it’s not just BOTOX®. At Clarity, we also use Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and our newest toxin –  Daxxify™ so you can choose the option that works best for you.

Essentially, these are preventative measures to keep you looking younger, longer, and prevent wear and tear on your skin over the long term.

Learn More: BOTOX® – It’s Not Just for Your Forehead

Perfect Your Pout

Lip enhancements are one of the easiest, quickest ways to uplevel your appearance. This can be achieved in a number of ways.

A lip flip, which involves injecting a toxin like those described above, just above the top lip. This actually relaxes movement in the orbicularis muscle which causes your top lip to do a little “flip” outwards, creating a fuller lip look.  This is a quick 15 minute treatment visit and lasts about 3-4 months.

Another option is to ask your provider to use either a small amount of lip filler for a subtle enhancement. You can start small, then increase the amount of filler used if you want to see more of a difference.

Say So Long to Pesky Hair

Another skincare secret that can help you feel amazing is laser hair removal. At Clarity, we use Cutera HR Laser System. It can treat any skin type and remove hair anywhere you would normally shave: face, underarms, bikini, legs, etc.

People who undergo this procedure typically experience a 90% reduction in hair in the areas that were treated. You will need approximately seven treatments spaced at 6 to 12 weeks apart. It’s worth noting that it doesn’t work to remove red, light blonde, or gray hair, but works on all skin colors!

HydraFacial for That Gorgeous Glow

The groundbreaking HydraFacial Silver method is the perfect three-step, personalized treatment to cleanse, extract, and hydrate your skin. Essentially, it’s a special kind of facial designed to meet your specific needs.

The first step is cleanse and peel; the second is extract and hydrate; and the third is protect.

Taken together, this amazing treatment can improve tone and texture, reduce overall redness and help to minimize dark spots. It only takes 30 minutes, and should be done four times a year or as much as monthly for the best results.

Were On Your Side

At Clarity, it’s only the best for our beloved customers! Our team, made up of top talent, is led by Kati Midgley, PA-C, who has two decades of medical experience and is a national instructor of aesthetics. We treat everyone who walks in the door like family, and we are here to meet your unique skincare needs and find exactly what works for you.

The Top Five Aesthetic Trends in 2023 https://clarityct.com/tips-trends/the-top-five-aesthetic-trends-in-2023/ Tue, 11 Jul 2023 20:41:12 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7170

The world of aesthetic medicine is ever-changing. New technologies are constantly popping up and transforming the skincare game!

What was best practice five years ago — or sometimes five months ago — may be entirely different today. Here at Clarity, we pride ourselves on staying on top of the latest trends to help you look your absolute best.

In this post, we’ll look at the top five aesthetic trends in 2023.

1.   Multi-Dimensional Fillers

So what are multi-dimensional dermal fillers, anyway? Essentially, it’s a filler designed for a specific area of the face, versus just one-size-fits-all. Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that replaces lost collagen, and are reversible, (which means if for any reason you aren’t 100% pleased they can be dissolved).

When Kati first started injecting dermal fillers nearly 20 years ago , JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® were the go-to options for nearly every area on the face. Some multi-dimensional fillers were being developed overseas, but they weren’t available here in the U.S. Today, due to advances and clearance by the FDA, many different fillers have been approved to treat specific areas on the face.

For example:

Restylane®’s family of fillers includes:

  • Restylane® Lyft, designed for cheeks and smile lines (aka nasolabial folds). It provides a lifted, smoothed appearance that can work wonders for a youthful look.
  • Restylane® Contour, designed for midface treatments. It provides volume in the cheek and midface area and offers a natural look.
  • Restylane® Refyne and Defyne, designed with XpresHAn Technology™ to address deep wrinkles and folds, particularly nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
  • Restylane® Kysse, designed to provide natural-looking lip enhancement and smooth perioral lines (above the upper lip).

RHA®collection from Revance includes:

  • RHA® Redensity, this product is new as of August 2022, and is the first and only FDA-approved filler for injection in both superficial dermis and dermis. It’s excellent for fine-tuning areas around the perioral area (such as vertical lip lines, or smoker’s lines), which is an extremely dynamic region.
  • RHA® 2, which provides an elegant softening of moderate to severe facial lines.
  • RHA® 3, which offers refined smoothing for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds including marionette lines and nasolabial folds.
  • RHA® 4, which provides natural restoration for areas in deeper need of volume, such as nasolabial folds.

Revanesse®’s offerings include:

  • Revanesse® Versa™, which works to refresh facial volume all over and smooth wrinkles.
  • Revanesse® Lips™, which enhances lip volume to create a plumper look.

JUVÉDERM® family of fillers includes:

  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, a classic product that restores lost volume.
  • JUVÉDERM® Volbella, designed to treat vertical lip lines.
  • JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC, designed to restore volume to the cheeks and midface.
  • JUVÉDERM® Vollure XC, designed to correct severe facial wrinkles and folds.

RADIESSE® and Sculptra®:

These are collagen-boosting, bio-stimulator fillers, or what are often called “foundational” fillers. Both options are excellent for gradually restoring overall volume to the face. Sculptra® is an injectable poly-L-lactic acid filler, while RADIESSE® uses Calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA. These two are not reversible.

So what makes all of these fillers different from one another? Why are some good for certain areas of the face? Fillers are differentiated by the size of the molecule of hyaluronic acid (or whatever substance is being used), the viscosity (thickness) and the depth of injection. Each one is unique.

Our skilled injectors Kati, PA-C, and Heather, RN, can analyze your face and determine which dermal filler to use for your unique needs, beauty goals, and budget.

2.   Neurotoxins

You’ve definitely heard of BOTOX®, but did you know that there are an array of other neurotoxins (aka wrinkle modulators) that can smooth wrinkles and create a more vibrant and youthful appearance?

These days, you’ve got choices. The selections include the classic BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau® and the newest of the bunch: DAXXIFY®, which lasts longer than any of the alternatives. (Clarity was one of the first medical aesthetics practice in Connecticut to offer DAXXIFY® to our patients.

LEARN MORE: Daxxify™ – The only long-lasting, peptide-powered frown line treatment

Neurotoxin treatments take about 15 minutes and there’s no downtime, which makes it perfect for busy patients.

As far as treatment areas, neurotoxins are excellent for:

  • Glabella also known as the “11s”
  • Forehead
  • In the cupid’s bow (the area above the lip/beneath the nose – for a subtle lip lift)
  • Underarms for hyperhidrosis aka excessive sweating
  • Treat a gummy smile
  • TMJ (a muscle spasm in your jaw that can cause teeth grinding)
  • Orange peel chin
  • Exaggerated neck bands

3.   Facial Treatment Plans

Many patients who are new to Clarity want to skip their initial consultation. While we understand wanting to get directly to the (amazing) results, skipping your consultation is a major mistake!

The consultation is an opportunity for our clinical team to become familiar with you, your gorgeous face, your beauty goals, and your budget. It’s the beginning of an important long-term relationship, and the perfect opportunity to map out a treatment plan. The treatment plan is a step-by-step “road map,” or a personalized plan to get you to your goals.

This plan could include a skincare regimen, neurotoxins, dermal fillers, energy-based treatments, etc. — at Clarity, we offer a vast range of services that can help you look and feel your best.

4.   Combination Therapy Treatments

Combination therapy treatments are all-encompassing options that target ALL the signs of aging, rather than addressing a singular need.

These combination treatments can address the following:

  • Lost volume
  • Sunspots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Broken capillaries
  • Poor texture
  • Loose skin
  • Enlarged pores

Examples of combination therapy treatments include dermal fillers, which can address a variety of issues, starting with lost volume and replacing collagen.

Then there are laser treatments, which can treat everything from early wrinkles and minor age spots all the way to deeper lines and spider veins. They also work great for sun spots and hyperpigmentation, while positively impacting skin texture.

As far as lasers, there are two options: non-ablative laser rejuvenation (meaning the treatment does not pierce the skin) and ablative laser rejuvenation (fractionated CO2 laser that poke tiny microscopic “holes” into the skin causing controlled damage, then your body goes to work to repair itself better than before).

For non-ablative treatments, Clarity offers Laser Rejuvenation — Global — which targets all signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. For skin that needs an additional boost, we can add a microneedling treatment (known as Laser Deep).

We also offer Laser Genesis, another non-invasive, mild treatment that offers a light collagen boost. This treatment is excellent just prior to an event, or to maintain a healthy glow after you’ve had more intense treatments.

For ablative treatments, a fractionated CO2 laser targets water, a major component of our skin. The vaporized tissue leads to collagen synthesis and reduction/removal of pigmentation. At Clarity, we use eCO2 by Lutronic, one of the leading fractionated laser platforms available.

Then there are Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments (also known as photofacials), which can reduce sun spots, redness, and many other signs of aging or direct sun damage.

5.   Mesotherapy

This special skin rejuvenation treatment involves injecting a powerful, custom-blended anti-aging solution directly into the skin (specifically, the subcutaneous fat). The customizable combo can include vitamins and minerals, extracts from plants, enzymes, and hormones.

This non-surgical technique is already being widely used in France (where it originated in the 1950s), Japan, and Korea.

Mesotherapy is extremely flexible and can address a wide range of issues; the injection solution can be mixed specifically to treat pore size, pigment, rosacea, fine lines, wrinkles, excess fat, and even hair loss.

This can be a stand-alone treatment, used as part of a treatment plan, or as a special event skin pick-me-up (when performed a minimum of one week prior to your special event).

Sylfirm vs. Morpheus vs. Microneedling – Everything You Need to Know https://clarityct.com/faqs/sylfirm-vs-morpheus-vs-microneedling-everything-you-need-to-know/ Tue, 28 Mar 2023 21:29:47 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7144

Microneedling, first introduced around 1905,  took until the 1990’s to begin being recommended by dermatologists for skin rejuvenation. While the science behind it is super sound, microneedling has significantly evolved since then.

These days, there are a lot of different options out there for anyone looking to tighten, tone, contour, and dramatically enhance their natural beauty!

In this blog post, we’ll talk about the difference between three leading technologies you’ve probably heard about microneedling, Morpheus8, and Sylfirm X. You’ll learn how they work, what their differences are, and which one(s) may be right for your unique aesthetic needs.

TLDR: Watch Kati and Elissa talk about this very topic during our LIVE from the Dollhouse series.

More About Microneedling

Microneedling works by using small needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of skin.

The theory behind microneedling is that we’re damaging the skin in order to grow more collagen or create neocollagenesis. Collagen is the magical protein that keeps us looking youthful! Like aerating a lawn, we make holes so we can increase the proportion of healthy tissue.

Essentially, our goal is always to take the texture of the skin from crepe paper to construction paper. Crepe paper is thin and wrinkles easily while construction paper is thick and holds its own.

Microneedling is safe for all skin types, textures, and colors. As far as how many treatments you’ll need, you can usually count on one treatment per decade of life. Add an additional treatment if you have a lot of sun damage or other significant skin issues.

But we’ll be honest: standard microneedling is no longer the best option; the newer technologies add radio frequency as a potent tool to enhance results.

Morpheus8: Best for Your Body

Morpheus8 has been all over the news lately, and for good reason! It utilizes radio frequency paired with microneedling to create amazing results for your body.

Here at Clarify we’ve already been using Morpheus8 for six years, so we were way ahead of the trend! While we used to use it for facial treatments, it goes a bit deeper than traditional microneedling and we’ve realized that it’s better for use below the neck.

Morpheus8 is excellent at targeting fat cells and actually goes 4 mm beneath the surface into the deep dermis and superficial fat — so it’s great for reducing very small deposits of fat in your body. It also tightens and helps reduce the look of crepey skin, so it’s terrific for the abdomen, knees, elbows, and arms.

Because Morpheus8 does go deeper, it can affect the fat in your face, and that’s something we definitely don’t want to mess with. Fat in your face is your friend, and we want to keep it intact! Morpheus8 when used to treat the face and neck can be uncomfortable despite our best efforts to minimize the pain.

Next up, let’s look at Sylfirm X.

Sylfirm X’s Superpowers

Sylfirm X is cutting-edge when it comes to helping you achieve that youthful glow and amazing skin texture. This fabulous machine has really blown away the competition in the realm of radio frequency microneedling. It’s the best of the best.

The minimally invasive Sylfirm X system can treat an array of issues including rosacea and melasma (which is normally extremely difficult to treat as it involves hormones).

It also tightens, addresses redness, shrinks pores and generally gets you looking absolutely gorgeous! The pulse wave from the machine allows energy to be captured in the skin — not as much on the skin — which decreases downtime.

Radio frequency with microneedling is colorblind, so it can even be used over tattoos.

Typically, you’ll need 1 treatment per decade of life (ex: 4 treatments if you are in your forties) to be thrilled with your results!

Minimizing Pain, Maximizing Results

At Clarify, we do our absolute best to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible while undergoing treatment.

Depending on what you’re having done, we provide several pain relief options including a CBD elixir that goes under the tongue, Pro-Nox inhalant (a nitrous and oxygen combination that’s used for women in labor), a powerful topical anesthetic, and a chiller that blows -4 degree cold air onto the area to control the pain.

We promise that any minor discomfort is well worth your incredible results!

Another unique aspect of Clarity’s care is that we offer regenerative medical boosters such as your own platelet rich plasma (PRP) or exosomes with all microneedling treatments. Exosomes are automatically part of all Sylfirm X treatments. Our unique Exosomes regenerative complex contains over 5 billion stem cells derived lyophilized exosomes, growth factors, peptides and more. This significantly speeds healing as well as increases collagen and elastin.

Clarity’s Unique Process

If you take away one thing from this post, it should be this: microneedling with radiofrequency is the gold standard for improving skin texture and tone.

Here at Clarity, only nurses with years of experience are performing your treatments — not medical assistants. When you meet with a member of our clinical team for a consultation you will receive a full assessment of your skincare, skin integrity, injectables, and energy-based treatment potential.

What is Regenerative Medicine, Exactly? https://clarityct.com/faqs/what-is-regenerative-medicine-exactly/ Sat, 10 Sep 2022 19:36:07 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=7029

There are lots of terms in the annals of aesthetic medicine, some more confusing than others. When you hear about something new and exciting, it can be a bit daunting to do the research.

So if you’ve ever wondered about the term “regenerative medicine,” this blog post is for you! It’ll cover everything you need to know about this emerging trend  in medical aesthetics and its two options: platelet rich plasma (PRP) and exosomes.

What is Regenerative Medicine, Exactly?

Regenerative medicine deals with the process of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells or tissues to restore or establish normal function.. This includes treatments that help the body repair itself by replacing or “regenerating” cells, tissue, collagen and elastin — all of the substances that tend to break down or decrease as we age.

There are two different types of treatments in medical aesthetics that fall under the umbrella of regenerative medicine. Those are:

  • Platelet Rich Plasma – “PRP”, which refers to the plasma that’s derived from a patient’s own blood. Plasma is the liquid portion of blood, and it’s mainly made up of water and proteins.
  • Exosomes are tiny little messengers for your cells. They arise from four divisions of a stem cell and create an array of information or instructions for the body.

These two treatment types can help with different things: facial skin rejuvenation and hair/scalp restoration.

For facial skin rejuvenation, PRP and exosomes can help with:

  • fine lines, wrinkles & age-related pigment
  • improves overall brightness and hydration
  • redness and skin irritation
  • skin lesions and acne scars
  • texture and pore size
  • increase collagen and elastin

For hair restoration, they can:

  • hydrate and nourishes the scalp
  • promote a healthy hair growth cycle
  • improve damaged, brittle, and lackluster hair
  • reduce hair shedding

LEARN MORE: Exosomes for the Scalp.

How Do PRP and Exosomes Work?

Delving more deeply into PRP, it’s an all-natural treatment that provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to make their way through the body. Platelets (also called thrombocytes) are blood cells that create blood clots and perform other growth and healing duties. Platelet activation plays a key role in the body’s natural healing and restoration process.

So, PRP can stimulate cell growth and tissue rejuvenation to help slow the aging process and promote collagen and elastin growth. In other words, PRP is youth-enhancing!

If you’re wondering how the PRP process works, blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a blood collection device which is spun in a centrifuge to efficiently separate the PRP from platelet-poor plasma.

At Clarity, we utilize Dr. PRP blood collection kits, a patented design that creates the high concentration and high-quality PRP. They are FDA-registered for use in medical aesthetics.

As far as exosomes, they’re paraben and steroid-free and responsible for communication between cells. They do this by merging with other cells and releasing their information into those cells, giving the old cells the information they need to regenerate, rejuvenate and improve themselves overall.

As we age our skin loses the ability to consistently produce collagen and repair damaged (aging) cells. At Clarity, we utilize EXOSOME Regenerative Complex+, an intensive dual-action hypoallergenic patented complex formulated to absorb quickly into the skin delivering the concentrated power of over five billion stem cell-derived lyophilized exosomes, potent growth factors, peptides, coenzymes, minerals, amino acids, and vitamins.

As far as treatment is concerned, PRP and exosomes may be either injected directly into the skin of the affected area or may also be massaged into the skin after any ablative (minimally invasive) aesthetic treatments such as:

  • Co2 (lasers that remove thin layers of skin to treat conditions)
  • Fractora (fractional resurfacing treatment using micro-pins)
  • Microneedling (tiny needles that stimulate collagen)
  • Morpheus8 (microneedling using radiofrequency energy)
  • Sylfirm (another form of microneedling using radiofrequency)

Both PRPs and exosomes immediately go to work to speed healing and lessen inflammation after treatments, leading to better results overall and a more enhanced appearance.

Why Should You Choose PRP vs. Exosomes?

While both treatments are extremely effective, you may be wondering which is right for you. The answer depends on your situation.

As far as PRP is concerned, patients who have any blood-related disorder may not be a candidate and should opt for exosomes instead.

For exosomes, some patients may not feel comfortable with exosomes since they are donor-derived (even though they are safe, sterile, and lyophilized).

When Do You See Results?

Results with both treatments are slow but steady, with the best results seen around the three month mark. Talk to your provider at Clarity about which option is best for you, and look forward to glowing skin and a younger-looking appearance either way!

Please note, results may vary. Your treatment options will be clearly reviewed with our medical professionals during your complimentary consultation.

Aesthetic Treatments During Hard Financial Times https://clarityct.com/faqs/aesthetic-treatments-during-hard-financial-times/ Tue, 21 Jun 2022 14:04:05 +0000 https://clarityct.com/?p=6926

Watch this video message from Kati

Hey, it’s Kati.

So I know you guys are all concerned with the economy and inflation, and the price of gas, and food, and everything else. I wanted to reassure you that here at Clarity, we haven’t raised our prices in eight years, and I don’t plan on raising them now.

That may or may not be a great business decision with the issues that we’re facing with supply chain issues and price gouging for gloves and gauze and everything else (the cost of gloves is up 250%!). But my goal is to keep you happy and to keep you on the right aesthetic path.

Three Tips for Saving Money on Aesthetics During Tough Times

The BEST way to ensure you are able to save some money when it comes to your aesthetic treatments is to MAKE A PLAN!! When you come in to meet with us, we will go over your goals both aesthetically and financially. We will also try and find ways to help save you money along the way.

Another great way to save money would be alternating one more expensive treatment with one less expensive treatment. It might be using a long-term filler versus a short-term filler that will have you coming back more frequently and spending more money to get that filler replaced every eight to 10 months. And, sometimes long-term fillers are actually better for you, anyway.

Lastly, another great way to save is to join all of the rewards programs from the major manufacturers! They offer deep discounts and lots of great specials throughout the year.

So those are three tips that can help you save, in addition to us trying to help as much as we can.

So just know that we are on your side. We’re trying to do the best we can. And we love you!
