Let’s face it, when it comes to preventing the signs of aging, we tend to focus all of our attention on our face. You probably have a very well regimented facial care routine including sunscreen, hydrating lotions, serums as well as some professional anti-aging treatments as well.

Unfortunately, all of that time and effort spent on your face won’t mean anything if you don’t devote some attention to your hands!

That’s right. Your face isn’t the only place that shows your age. Your hands are actually one of the biggest indicators of your age. In fact, if you don’t pay attention to your hands, they may age you faster than your face! Yikes! If you’ve been neglecting your hands up until now, know that it isn’t too late. Clarity Medical Aesthetics can help and here’s how.

What Happens As Your Hands Age?

As you age, your body naturally changes—whether you want it to or not. And, unfortunately, aging comes with some rather visible indicators. When most people think of the visible signs of aging, they tend to focus on the face. While this is a common place for your age to begin to show, it is far from the only one.

Your hands change over time and can betray your age. There are a couple of things that can happen to your hands as you get older:

  • Hyperpigmentation/sun spots. Sun spots (also sometimes called hyperpigmentation) are dark spots that occur on your skin as a result of exposure to the sun, just having your hands on the steering wheel while driving your car can cause sun damage. While younger hands may show some sun spots, those spots typically become more prevalent as you get older. They also multiply much faster and can occur wherever you’ve been negligent with the sunscreen—and let’s be honest…do you use sunscreen on your hands every day?
  • Collagen loss. Along with sun spots, you may notice a loss of collagen in your hands. Collagen loss is also often caused by UV damage, and can cause the skin on your hands to appear “crepey” (crumpled or crinkly). Even if your face is smooth and wrinkle free, crepey hands due to collagen loss can quickly give you away.

Volume Loss is a Quick and Easy Fix

When your hands betray your true age, it can make all of the effort you put into your face seem like wasted time. But rest assured that isn’t the case! At Clarity we have treatments that can help reverse the signs of aging.

In fact, restoring lost volume is a quick and easy fix, one that can restore your hands and give you a more youthful appearance overall. At Clarity Medical Aesthetics, we offer several treatments to restore your hands. We have found that a personalized combination of these treatments is the most effective and provides you with the best results. When you come in for your complimentary consultation, we’ll discuss these options with you and determine the best course of action for your specific needs.

Hand rejuvenation before and after

Here is one of our hand rejuvenation before and afters using long-term biostimulating dermal filler.

Treatments for reversing signs of aging on your hands include:

  • Dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance. There are several different dermal fillers available, each with their own unique consistency and molecular size. They are designed to restore lost volume and plump the skin. While commonly used on the face, there are plenty of dermal fillers that are ideal for restoring your hands and more.
  • Laser. Laser treatments utilize light, which passes through the skin and heats it, effectively boosting collagen production. We provide both non-ablative and ablative laser treatments. Non-ablative means that the laser doesn’t pierce through the skin, and is often best for the early signs of aging. Ablative treatments are combined with microneedling, which pierces the skin and offers a deeper rejuvenation. This particular treatment is often more effective for advanced sun damage and texture.
  • IPL. Intense Pulse Light treatments don’t actually involve the use of a laser. The light penetrates deeper into the skin working to reduce hyperpigmentation and improving skin texture. At Clarity Medical Aesthetics, we use the Quanta Light Series Laser Platform, which enables us to select the wavelength needed to provide you with the best possible results while also reducing your downtime.
  • PRP/PRF. PRP (platelet rich plasma) and its newer counterpart PRF (platelet rich fibrin) are a unique treatment that involves the use of your own blood. With both treatments, small samples of your blood are taken and spun in a centrifuge. These treatments concentrate the platelets in your blood, which are responsible for releasing the growth factors that stimulate new collagen production, skin cells and blood vessels. Both treatments can be used anywhere on the body, including the hands, to improve texture, tone and discoloration.
  • Topical cosmeceuticals. At Clarity, we also offer a wide array of topical cosmeceuticals to help restore a more youthful appearance to your hands. Along with our own line of cosmeceuticals, we also offer such lines as CosMedix, and Elta MD. We can help you to determine which cosmeceuticals will provide you with optimal results.

Hands are a dead giveaway of your age. You spend a ton of time and money keeping your face young and fresh—don’t neglect your hands! Contact Clarity Medical Aesthetics today to schedule your free consultation.
